I am writing my latest book called Duval and the Italian Opera Singer. One scene is set in a Parisian brothel. I had my hero sitting alone on a velvet couch waiting for a prostitute called Manon to finish with her latest client so he could find out some information about the abduction of a small child. He sits there, listening to various sounds. I suddenly realised I had no idea of a man's reactions to all this. I have never been in such a place and neither has my husband. But I went and asked him. I found out that he is a visual man and sounds alone would not be enough for him. He suggested the addition of a visit by some scantily clad ladies which would make the book stronger. I was happy to oblige. Thank you, John.
